The Calgary Chapter is run by Director Dr. John Hurlbert and Coordinator Darrell Herrick. ThinkFirst Calgary's focus is on delivering school-based presentations and programs, in addition to other community outreach initiatives. ThinkFirst Calgary's message is supported and strengthened by their 9 VIPs (Voices of Injury Prevention), who have each sustained a brain or spinal cord injury. These VIPs share their powerful stories and the message for prevention at ThinkFirst presentations.

• On March 10 and 11, 2010 ThinkFirst Calgary gave important safety presentations to kids at Calgary's annual Safety Expo. To see them in action check out the last three minutes of the link.

• With 60 classroom presentations, 2009 was a busy year for ThinkFirst Calgary Coordinator, Darrell Herrick. It's hard to believe that Darrell also had time for a presentation to the Canadian Association of Neuroscience Nurses and to attend a two day ThinkFirst conference in Chicago.
• In 2008 Chapter Coordinator, Darrell Herrick, presented to Hockey Alberta on concussions and return to play.
• 2008 - Along with Chapter Direcetor, Dr. Hurlbert, Darrell gave a presentation to the University of Calgary on brain injuries, concussions, and what it's like to live with a brain injury.
• Each year we try to give out helmets to children in need. In 2008 alone we distributed over 340 helmets!
• Since 2003 ThinkFirst Calgary has presented to more than 30,000 students in Calgary and surrounding areas. The 2006-2007 school year marked our Chapter's busiest year, seeing more than 11,000 student through 146 presentations!
  

what we do

• The Calgary Chapter is very busy presenting to classrooms of students from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
• We are involved in community events including Health Fairs, Safety Expos, and conduct Helmet Fitting Clinics.
• We distribute helmets to kids in need.
• We work in coalition with local injury prevention organizations including the Calgary Safety Expo, Safer Calgary, Calgary Injury Prevention Coalition, and the Alberta Injury Control Alliance to get the injury prevention message out!
