Dive Smart/Sudden Impact

Diving into a lake, pond or pool can be cool relief from hot weather. While the shallow waters of a backyard pool may seem deceivingly innocuous, diving into shallow water can result in loss of consciousness, drowning, catastrophic injuries and even death. These aren't accidents - all diving injuries can be prevented.

Sudden Impact and Dive Smart are educational programs, conveniently packaged on one DVD, carefully designed to teach youth about diving injury prevention.

Sudden Impact, hosted by adolescent hosts, takes high school aged youth through different aquatic scenarios and illustrates how even a small lapse in judgment can result in spinal cord injury. Combining key information regarding spinal injuries with inspirational accounts by teen diving injury survivors, Sudden Impact is sure to leave an impact the next time you are in the water.

For younger audiences, students in grades 1-6, Dive Smart walks children through water safety procedures and rules for the community and home.

Leader's Guides accompany both programs on an enclosed CD-Rom. These guides are designed to help class or group leaders (e.g. teachers, camp leaders, lifeguards, swimming instructors) discuss each program with their students. The Guides include facts, tips, and model activities to help enhance the impact of the DVD program. Both Guides meet some of the overall and specific expectations associated with provincial curriculum for health and physical education. Dive Smart/Sudden Impact Videos

ThinkFirst Video Player

I do remember the reaction of some of our high school kids here at the pool upon viewing it. It was a very effective video and I felt strongly that it had an unforgettable impact on the viewers. At one point our high school brought in a quadriplegic to host a session with the video. There was lots of emotion and a tremendous feeling of what could happen if I stronglyl feel that the video has made a difference and is a positive influence. Pat, Park Valley Pool
