Smart Hockey

Canadians are passionate about hockey, there's no denying it. Many Canadian youths grow up idolizing their favourite hockey players and will try to emulate them on the ice.

The game is a fast-paced, physical and high-intensity sport and with emotions running high, it can go too far. Even when wearing protective gear, players are not immune to concussions and spinal injuries. In Smart Hockey, notable hockey stars, such as Mats Sundin, Mark Messier, Martin Brodeur, just to name a few, share their tips and demonstrate how to avoid causing and sustaining hockey injuries. Players, coaches and parents will gain valuable knowledge from this entertaining and educational DVD.

The Smart Hockey: More Safety More Fun! program is the longest-running and most requested of ThinkFirst Canada's injury prevention programs. This program is divided into 5 segments for easy use in instructional settings. Each segment is headed up with key quotes, plus questions which can be "discussion-starters" after viewing. Younger players are encouraged to watch segments 3 and 4, while older players should view sections 2, 3 and 4. It is recommended that officials, coaches, trainers, instructors and parents watch all 5 segments. Most segments are under 10 minutes in length and feature tips from stars to avoid causing and sustaining hockey injuries.

The Smart Hockey: More Safety More Fun! Digital Booklet is a supplement toThe Smart Hockey DVD. It is meant for the players and their families, and also the coaches, referees, trainers, league officials and for the medical personnel who provide treatment for injured players.
